Bronx, NY – The Board of Trustees today appointed Casey Vier as principal, effective October 26, 2015. Vier was most recently the Academic Dean at ľֱ’s Aid College Prep, where she developed the school curriculum and supervised teacher instruction. Her efforts yielded promising results, with ľֱ’s Aid College Prep third graders surpassing city and state averages on the 2015 New York State mathematics and English Language Arts standardized exams.
Karen Drezner, board chair for ľֱ’s Aid College Prep, said, “We couldn’t ask for a more skilled or compassionate leader of young minds than Casey. She is continually focused on strengthening the curriculum, and she has the full support of the staff charged with teaching and supporting our scholars.”
Prior to her time at ľֱ’s Aid College Prep, Vier taught special needs students at Midland Park High School in New Jersey. Vier moved on to the Bronx Charter School for Excellence, where she taught middle school reading and math, mentored teachers, and served as chair of the special education department. She holds a bachelor of science in special education from the University of Dayton, a master’s degree in young adolescent education from Mercy College, and a post graduate degree in school administration and supervision from Hunter College. Vier is also an adjunct professor at Hunter College.

ľֱ’s Aid College Prep, located in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, was founded in 2012. In its third academic year, it serves more than 300 students in grades K-4. The school operates on a lottery system, giving preference to students from low-income families and single-parent households, and students in the child welfare system. As a ľֱ’s Aid community school, it provides comprehensive student support services and after school programs, in efforts to combat chronic absenteeism and start students on a pathway to college.
