NEW YORK – ľֱ’s Aid has been selected as a beneficiary of The New York Times Communities Fund holiday giving campaign to help support its work of ensuring New York City children, youth, and families have all the tools they need to thrive.
For 113 years, The New York Times has coordinated a holiday giving campaign to encourage readers to support people who are under-resourced and over-burdened. To date, the fund has raised over $337 million for nonprofit organizations. ľֱ’s Aid has been supported by the generosity of The Fund since its inception.
“At ľֱ’s Aid, we’ve been privileged to be a partner of The New York Times since the first campaign, more than 100 years ago,” said ľֱ’s Aid President and CEO Phoebe C. Boyer. “During that time, readers have helped our children and families stock their pantries, furnish their homes, get caught up on their rent, achieve their educational dreams, train for new careers, and so much more. This consistent support from the campaign has inspired our staff, strengthened our programs, and allowed us to advance our mission of removing every obstacle between New York City’s children and their boundless potential.”
This year’s Communities Fund will enable us to provide direct support to our children and families. From rental assistance and school clothing to baby supplies for new parents, this aid ensures that our clients are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.
Funding from this year’s campaign will help support our community centers. ľֱ operates six community centers serving children and youth ages 0-24. Each center acts as a hub for social-emotional development, academics, summer enrichment, and workforce development and also provides access to crucial services like food support and healthcare.
The fund will also help ľֱ’s Aid continue to provide free eye exams and prescription glasses for students in need across 20 community schools.
