The New York Times Communities Fund continues the legacy of the Neediest Cases Fund by assisting local, national and global nonprofits as they work to provide direct support to people and communities facing hardship.
NEW YORK -- Today, The New York Times Communities Fund that ľֱ’s Aid will be featured in this year’s annual campaign. ľֱ’s Aid joins CAMFED, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York, Feeding America, First Book Hispanic Federation, International Rescue Committee, OneGoal, Per Scholas, and UJA-Federation of New York in this recognition.
For 112 years, the New York Times Communities Fund – formerly known as the Neediest Cases Fund – has encouraged readers to help those in need and has coordinated a holiday season giving campaign as a direct way to do just that. To date, the Fund has raised over $330 million for nonprofit organizations that have helped countless individuals improve their circumstances and lead more enriching lives.
“At ľֱ’s Aid, we’ve been privileged to be a partner of The New York Times since the first campaign, more than 100 years ago,” said ľֱ’s Aid President and CEO Phoebe C. Boyer. “During that time, readers have helped our children and families stock their pantries, furnish their homes, get caught up on their rent, achieve their educational dreams, train for new careers, and so much more. This consistent support from the campaign has inspired our staff, strengthened our programs, and allowed us to advance our mission of removing every obstacle between New York City’s children and their boundless potential.”
For 170 years, ľֱ’s Aid has been committed to ensuring that there are no boundaries to the aspirations of young people, no limits to their potential. We know what it takes to ensure children and youth grow up strong and healthy, and ready to thrive in school and life: excellent education and health care, social-emotional support, and strong stable families. Today, we serve nearly 50,000 children, youth, and their families at more than 40 sites in targeted, under-resourced neighborhoods in New York City.
Funding from this year’s campaign will help support our community centers. ľֱ operates six community centers serving children and youth ages 0-24. Each center acts as a hub for social-emotional development, academics, summer enrichment, and workforce development and also provides access to crucial services like food support and healthcare.
The fund will also help us continue to provide free eye exams and prescription glasses for students in need across 20 community schools.
