announced today the hiring of Yolanda McBride as its new director of public policy. In this role, McBride will lead advocacy efforts at ľֱ’s Aid in a range of areas, including education, health and child welfare, as well as youth development, adolescent pregnancy prevention, juvenile justice and cross-systems coordination.
“Yolanda McBride’s deep knowledge and experience in education reform and social policy make her the ideal candidate to advance our policy goals locally and nationally,” said Richard R. Buery Jr., president and CEO of The ľֱ’s Aid Society.
McBride will take the lead in developing, coordinating and implementing an advocacy agenda for The ľֱ Society to ensure that low-income children and youth are given every opportunity to succeed.
Before joining The ľֱ’s Aid Society, McBride served in the mayor’s office as senior policy advisor to the deputy mayor for economic development acting as the mayor’s liaison to the New York City Housing Authority. Before that, she was senior policy analyst to the New York City Council, where she built initiatives and partnerships for education, social services and aging programs for Speaker Quinn, including the Middle School Task Force, Adult Education initiatives and Age Friendly New York City. She spent seven years managing research and evaluation projects at the New York University Institute for Education and Social Policy and began her career at a private foundation granting scholarships to low-income students.
McBride has a bachelor of arts in American Studies from Lafayette College and a master of public administration from New York University.
